Hyproof develops and manufactures fuel-cell MEAs and catalyst-coated membranes at industrial scale.
Products
Catalyst Coated Proton Membrane (CCM)
One of SinoHyKey's core products. A unique CCM catalyst mixture, slurry formulation and process parameters are custom-designed for each customer to ensure unparalleled performance and uniformity. The automated production line uses slot-die coating together with patch/intermittent and stripe coating technologies for high-precision coating, and is equipped with single-sheet inspection that quickly and accurately identifies defects possibly arising in previous processes during the inspection stage. CCM products can operate under the extreme operating conditions of fuel cell vehicles, adapting to temperature and humidity fluctuations and frequent start/stop cycles.
Roll-to-roll capacity: > 300,000 m² per year; production line speed: > 3.0 linear meters per minute; maximum coating size: 400 × 280 mm; cathode and anode edge overlap tolerance: < 0.5 mm; production yield up to 99.95% (company-level data); optional integrated OER (oxygen evolution reaction / reversal-tolerant catalyst) technology.
- Core electrochemical component of fuel cell stacks (the CCM is the electrochemical core of the MEA)
- Fuel cell vehicles (automotive operating conditions: temperature/humidity fluctuations, frequent start-stop)
- Prototypes can be customized to the customer's stack output and operating conditions and then transferred to volume production
CCM / MEA with integrated OER reversal-tolerant anode catalyst
A special anode catalyst technology under development at SinoHyKey. During normal fuel cell operation, both the anode and cathode reactions require an adequate supply of electrons and protons; when the electrical load changes rapidly or the reactant flow is insufficient, this balance is broken, causing the anode potential to rise and the cathode potential to fall, and in extreme cases cell reversal occurs, causing irreversible damage to the MEA. The OER technology uses a special anode catalyst to promote the neutral oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in place of the destructive carbon oxidation reactions (CORs), thereby extending MEA life and improving reliability. This technology can be integrated into the CCM.
Replaces carbon oxidation reactions (COR) with an anode OER catalyst; the official website does not provide quantitative indicators such as loading or lifetime and only states that MEA durability and reliability can be improved; the BOL reversal tolerance time of the MEA product can reach 120 minutes (see the MEA product performance description).
- Vehicle fuel cell MEAs requiring long life and high reliability
- Operating conditions prone to cell reversal (rapid load changes, insufficient reactant supply)
- Fuel cell stacks for commercial and passenger vehicles
Double frame MEA
SinoHyKey's current mainstream MEA packaging format: one piece of CCM sealed between two frame layers (double frame process). This well-proven method is the cornerstone of the company's product line. Customizable framed membrane electrode products are offered, with fast production processes and integrated molding technology accelerating delivery times (annual capacity up to 300,000 square meters). The company has rapid in-house CCM/MEA prototyping capability and applies DFM (design for manufacturing) principles to simplify models, reducing raw material waste while scaling to volume production; samples undergo strict quality and performance evaluation before entering volume production.
Annual MEA delivery capacity: up to 300,000 m²; packaging cycle: fast packaging (company public materials state 2 min per unit with a yield of 99.4%, see notes stating that this data comes from a non-official page); structure: single-piece CCM + two frame layers; production lines: highly flexible manual line (prototypes/small batches) + medium-sized semi-automated line (validated designs) + large-volume roll-to-roll mass production line (under construction).
- Key component of fuel cell stacks
- Commercial vehicles such as fuel cell buses, logistics vehicles and heavy trucks
- Prototype development and small-batch trial production (manual line)
Single frame MEA (in development)
A new MEA packaging format under development at SinoHyKey. Compared with the double frame, the single frame process can reduce the amount of frame material used in the MEA, thereby lowering cost and simplifying the manufacturing process; the official website also states that the company plans to launch single frame MEA products in order to update the mainstream double frame design concept in China. The official website image is captioned "From left to right: double frame MEA, single frame MEA".
Structure: single-piece CCM + single-layer frame (reduced frame material usage compared with the double frame); status: in development / being launched; the official website does not provide independent quantitative specifications such as dimensions or power density, and performance follows the general MEA indicators (power density > 1 W/cm² at 1.5 A/cm², up to 1.4 W/cm² in some cases).
- Cost-sensitive vehicle fuel cell stacks
- MEA projects requiring simplified manufacturing steps and improved volume production efficiency
Regular loading MEA
One of the most expensive parts of a fuel cell is the catalyst (usually a precious metal such as platinum); a larger electrical load requires a thicker catalyst layer, which increases manufacturing cost. Based on market analysis, SinoHyKey decided to offer MEAs with two different loadings to suit different load requirements: the regular loading version targets relatively less demanding application scenarios.
Power density > 1 W/cm² when operating at 1.5 A/cm², up to 1.4 W/cm² under some conditions; BOL reversal tolerance time up to 120 minutes; loading tier: regular loading; presented on the official website as performance curves (Regular loading MEA performance curves).
- Fuel cell passenger vehicles
- Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
- Fuel cell forklifts
High loading MEA
An MEA tier designed for larger electrical loads and demanding operating conditions. A larger electrical load requires a thicker catalyst layer, and the high loading MEA meets the output and durability requirements of commercial vehicles and other heavy-duty vehicles.
Power density > 1 W/cm² when operating at 1.5 A/cm², up to 1.4 W/cm² under some conditions; BOL reversal tolerance time up to 120 minutes; loading tier: high loading; presented on the official website as performance curves (High loading MEA performance curves).
- Fuel cell commercial vehicles (buses, logistics vehicles, heavy trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles)
- Other heavy-duty vehicles and high-load applications
